Chand threatens another round of insurgency

Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN-M), Netra Bikram Chand said on Tuesday that his party is being compelled to wage another round of insurgency.

The firebrand Maoist leader expressed such views while addressing a function organized by the CPN-M-aligned National Youth Volunteers in Chitwan. "I am ready to lead a people's liberation army if we feel there is such a need," said Chand.

The Maoist leader, who spent most of his time in the Maoist base areas in mid-Western hills during the insurgency, came down heavily on the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.

"The government is taking legal actions the party cadres for wartime cases," he said. "Two of the party cadres have been detained in Chitwan and there are preparations to sentence 12 others to life in prison. This is a conspiracy."

Chand strongly advocates the necessity of violence for regime change.  He said his party doesn’t want to return to war, but added that the NC and UML are leading the country to another round of violent conflict.

On the current political situation, Chand said that conspiracies are being hatched to adopt the same parliamentary system. "We will fight against such a conspiracy," he said, adding, "The party will not surrender to regressive elements."

The second generation leader also criticized UCPN (M) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and accused him of betraying the people.  The party is forming a new district committee of National Youth Volunteers' in Chitwan on Wednesday.
