Six killed in avalanche

Six people were killed and nine others are missing in an avalanche that occurred between the Mt Everest Base Camp and Camp I this morning.
According to Kapindra Rai, Programme Officer of the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC), Namche, a team of 15 people who were carrying loads towards the Camp I from the Base Camp were caught up in the avalanche.
Bodies of four of the six deceased have been retrieved and efforts are on to retrieve the remaining ones, Rai said.
The people caught up in the avalanche are all Nepali Sherpas working for two or three mountaineering companies including the Alpine Ascent and there are no foreigners among the casualties, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Solukhumbu district, Sitaram Karki, said.
The avalanche is still contining in the area and the rescue works have been hampered due to inclement weather, it is stated.
