People’s reps launch campaign against chhaugoth

Jumla– People’s representatives have launched a campaign against chhaugoth- a traditional practice of excluding girl/women from home to outhouse during menstruation. 
 
The people’s representatives at local level and social organizations working on women rights are all set to free the villages of chhaugoth with massive awareness campaign. 
 
On 7 December, the women and concerned local representatives announced Puru village of Tila rural municipality-8 as the chhaugoth free village. 
 
The attendants at a programme organized by Tila rural municipality and Action Aid Nepal signed a commitment paper on the announcement of chhaugoth free Puru village. 
 
Chairman of Tila rural municipality, Ratannath Yogi, said the campaign focusing awareness to women and shamans against the evil practice of chhaugoth was launched. Nine villages including Puru would be announced chhaugoth free and given a message of civilized citizens, said a ward chairman Santabir Rawat. -Ratopati.com
