Minister Rijal : Govt. Won’t Interfere With Court Procedure

Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal has hinted that the government would not withdraw cases filed against the accused involved in the murder case of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Fujel, Gorkha.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Press Union in Nepalgunj today, Minister Rijal, also the government spokesperson, said that the government would not interfere with the court proceedings. “Should we not support the bill tabled by the government concerning the formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Disappearance and solve all the issues or should we just focus on a single case?” argued Minister Rijal.

Major opposition party UCPN (Maoist) has warned of stern protests if the government does not immediately withdraw cases against party cadres who were charge-sheeted by the Chitwan district attorney office earlier this week for their involvement in the 2004 Adhikari murder case. The party has also boycotted all-party meets expressing displeasure over the revival of conflict-era cases.

Minister Rijal further went on to claim that the state was not involved in any incident of murder during the period of Maoist insurgency.
